A study at the University of Maine at Orono (and covered by the Associate Press November 7 2010) revealed that pine needles have a high level of shikimic acid ( a plant phytochemical)\u00a0 which many doctors believe can stop or inhibit the spike protein damage.<\/p>\n
The study was partially initiated to provide evidence to begin harvesting and processing Maine pine needles for marketing world wide – to replace or compete with the Star Anise- a fruit native to China which also has a high concertation of shikimic acid– which is more expensive and less widely available.<\/p>\n
